For 50 years Lamoille Ambulance service has helped our regional communities access quality healthcare.
Founded in 1974, LAS success is due to being a stepping-stone company, LAS provides many with their first healthcare positions. Some come to us unsure if they want to pursue healthcare. Some are fulfilling their required patient care hours for their medical programs. Some come to LAS simply to help their communities access care.
LAS is a good career and/or first step. LAS is asking everyone to consider joining their local first response service if right for them. Without these remarkable people, accessing healthcare would be difficult to obtain.
History:
Lamoille Ambulance Service (LAS) was created in 1974 by Chuck and Lee Hoag of Johnson, Vermont. At first, it was just a small operation, but by 1977 the company was able to add ambulances to the fleet. By 1987 the company grew on request from The University of Vermont Medical (formally, Medical Center Hospital of Vermont/Fletcher Allen). In 1992 Robert Hoag became the company’s president with visions of his own and the next few years saw LAS begin to provide services within Clinton and Essex Counties of Northeastern New York State. At this point, LAS became an incorporation. In 1995 LAS formed a partnership with the hospital and formed Fletcher Allen Coordinated Transport (FACT) which operated until 2004.
Services Provided:
LAS is committed to providing the highest quality of service to all patients. As of 2024, Lamoille Ambulance achieved their Golden Anniversary milestone of 50 years in service. Today the company continues to provide Basic and Advanced Life Support, transportation throughout New England for persons requiring medical care during their trip to or from hospitals, nursing facilities, care homes and private residences with a primary focus on Chittenden County.
In Northeastern New York, LAS utilizes New York Certified Paramedic Technicians to perform critical care transports to larger hospitals through existing mutual aid agreements. LAS also works with air transfer companies to provide transportation to and from the aircraft when needed.
Commitment To Quality & The Future of Healthcare
LAS has provided many with their first healthcare positions. Some individuals come unsure if they want to pursue healthcare as a career. Some come to fulfill a requirement of obtaining the patient care hours necessary for entry into medical school programs. Lastly, some come to LAS simply to help their communities access care. These career EMTs, the backbone, as we call them, help train newcomers to the healthcare field all while sharing their passion for the work that they do. Most staff eventually move on up in healthcare and are today’s doctors, physical therapists, nurses, and every role in-between.
LAS is proud to do their part to ensure the future of healthcare is stable. By embracing an “Open Door” policy, any employee has at their disposal a “chain of command” within which to address any issues related to employment and career development. LAS welcomes newcomers to learn their skills and access training that better prepares them for their future careers.
Operating Philosophy:
It is the primary goal of LAS to establish and maintain a service with the upmost attention to professionalism and commitment to the highest quality of care one can provide. It is the hope of LAS to grow and continue to be recognized as a welcomed member of the communities we service and those we may service in the future.
